Introduction

Have you ever wondered which is more important- the layout, or content, of a site? If you have, you're not alone. But which is more important? The layout, which gives your eyes either a vacation or a punishment, or the content, the tons of sentences which people should be focusing on more? I'll write which is more important.

Layouts

"Don't judge a book by it's cover," doesn't really apply here; most likely, if is a site has a great layout, either they have great content too, or they only focus on the layout. I mean, yeah, there are sites out there with both good layouts AND content, but 7 out of 10 times, it's either a great layout with no content, or vice versa.

Layouts are easier to steal- I'm not implying I'm some horrible layout stealing thief that hacks into your host to steal future layout ideas, but face it, isn't it easier to press print screen or view source, change some details, and upload and get away with it, rather than pressing copy and paste, putting it in proper HTML and saving it?

Content

Content is what keeps your viewers on your site. Sure, the layout will keep them mesmerized for a while, but the content is what keeps them coming. Content shows your personality, and without it, your site is just a layout. Sure, you might be good at them, but content is the 'spark' that makes your site special than another person's site. It shows uniqueness, individuality, and your opinion on somethings.

If somebody gets your content, however, it would be hard to prove stolen, because not many will remember your site with the page on Falkner, but with the green layout (hypothetically). One way to make sure this doesn't happen is to post when you made the page, and have some kind of proof that you made it before them.

Closing words

While it's important to remember that sites aren't all about content, having content is important. And while layouts aren't everything, presentation does matter. So yeah, they're both equal. I bet you didn't see that coming. =P
