Introduction

Web mastering is a very fun hobby. It might start out as confusing, difficult, or even boring! But, some webmasters want to help you a bit with web mastering, and that's what this guide is here for.

Don't focus too much.

Well, I don't mean as in don't have any determination, but I mean don't focus on your flaws or positives too much. If you focus on your flaws too much, then you're going to get too much stress, and you might will come off as un-confident to your readers, and then you might lose hits. Also, if you focus on your positives too much, you might become cocky, rude, and self-absorbed. You might even not update, because you think that one positive is enough.

You're not Google.

As blunt as I put it, you probably aren't the owner of Google, Yahoo!, or any other major site. No, I'm not saying that to be rude, but honestly, if you put affiliation requirements you don't even meet, than you are going to come off as self-absorbed. Don't boast too much in every update, and don't even think about mocking somebody else's site, because you think your site is better.

Don't Judge a Site by it's Home Page.

If someone asks to become an affiliate with you, you shouldn't just look at their home page and see how often they update, look at their layout, and look at their nav bars. You should check a page or two from their nav bars, and see if it's actual content, or if it's just stolen, or a couple of lines. Sadly, sometimes the site's content is bad. If you think you'd be going brutal on them by saying no, remember to say it nicely, tell them their flaws, and then remind them they could reapply. I realize everyone can't say that, or else we'd all sound like robotic flight attendants, but just don't bite their head off if your reject them.

Staying Alive

Unfortunately, I have seen this happen, a lot. The reason many people do this is because they think they're site isn't progessing after a day. I'll give you advice on how to keep your mouse away from the "Delete Site" button.

The first way to the path off of the iCementery is to find out if you're getting bored of your site. An easy way to find out is to ask yourself the follwoing questions, or others: "If I were a visitor of my site, would I look at these pages?" "Do I like the layout?" "Will this content make people want to come to my site?" Those were just a few sample questions you could ask. If the answers were negative, you could try a revisioning. Basicly, you update most pages, layouts, and other stuff.

The second way to get off that road is to revision like I said before, but if that doesn't work, then I suggest going on a mini-break. Just replace your home page with a "We're Under Construction" page, and while you do that, either 1, take a break from webmastering, and do activities which could get your mind off webmastering, and at the same time give you new ideas.
